Pera Istanbul, Turkey, December 2022
Vitruta approached April Key’s studio to create a permanent window installation for one of their stores in Istanbul (Pera), designed to reflect key aspects of the brand. The installation needed to embody Vitruta’s motto, “responsibly curated for good people,” and reflect their eco-friendly approach with clean aesthetics and vibrant pops of colour. Additionally, the pieces were crafted to be visible both from the outside and within the store, enhancing the visual appeal across perspectives. A final requirement was for the installation to connect with Istanbul’s iconic Pera district, renowned for its chaotic yet beautiful streets, steep inclines, and narrow passageways. This unique location provided inspiration for blending Key’s distinct style with Vitruta’s brand identity. The resulting work featured handblown glass neon lettering, mirrored on both sides and illuminated with soft white lighting to emphasize the forms. Materials were locally sourced, including plexiglass from scrap yards, utilizing offcuts in alignment with the brand’s sustainable ethos. The installation also used handblown glass neon—a highly sustainable light source. Digital renderings were created to share the installation’s inspiration and form.
