‘The Gin Gang’ is a permanent sculptural installation inspired by the unspoiled night sky of Northumberland. Using straight neon tubes arranged in an organic, flowing pattern, the piece evokes the essence of long-exposure night photography. This work reflects the contrast between the natural landscape and industrial heritage, drawing parallels between the stillness of the night sky and the historical gin gangs once used for milling. The Gin Gang invites viewers to contemplate the intersection of light, form, and history in rural England. The project was commissioned for a heritage ‘Gin Gang’ barn at @thecharltonhall estate, which now is the entrance to the newly renovated commercial hosting space.
